World Music Day

The Fête de la Musique or World Music Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at BHIS, Andheri this year.

Our students from grades 1-3 enjoyed the twingle and twangle of the harp by learning about its parts, how it is played, and finally unwinding by playing the famous song “Lean on me” and singing along!

Keeping in mind the aim of building a globally sound future, students of grades 4-8 were taught music using the 3R initiative.

The students of grades 4-6 created music with one of the most common trash objects that can be recycled and reused efficiently- a plastic bag! After watching videos on water drumming and a song using plastic bags, students were encouraged to experiment with sound themselves using a plastic bag. The session culminated in then creating music along to the popular song, “Dance Monkey”.

Grades 7 and 8 participated in a Trash Drumming workshop where students were shown how to build a drum kit by recycling and reusing trash cans and rubbish. Consequently, students were asked to go through their own trash and find the equivalent drum kit sections made out of refuse. Students then listened to “Bad Guy by Billie Eilish” and were enthralled to replicate the drum kit part using their various pieces of trash.

World Music Day at BHIS Andheri was indeed soulful, creative and it highly motivated students to create music using innovation and imagination. after all, what is life without music?

Plato rightly said, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”
