“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” The students of BHIS Andheri celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21st,2023 and breathed their way towards healthier minds and bodies. The significance of the day was well articulated coupled with befitting demonstration of yoga. The theme of the year was Vasudev Kutumbhakam i.e. The Earth is my home. In keeping with the theme , the students were taught Suryanamaskar or salutation to show gratitude towards source of all life on planet. Primary and secondary section students started with the warm up exercises and then performed all the sitting and standing asanas such as Virabhadrasana, Bhujangasana, Adho Mukha Savanasana, Urdhva Mukha Savanasana. The asanas helped the children in maintaining a steady posture and reduce mental stress. They also practiced Pranayama such as Anulom Vilom and Kapal Bhati. They were conveyed a message that practising yoga asanas regularly helps in maintaining a healthy body and a healthy mind. Our little yogis have also been practising mindfulness, body awareness, breathing techniques through yoga on a regular basis. With great enthusiasm and energy, they stretched, twisted, and breathed their way to healthier mind and body. At Billabong High International School, we will continue nurturing their love for yoga and inspire them to make it a part of their daily lives.
