How could we not celebrate the reason for our being? It was World Students’ Day, and we simply had to do something special. Add to it, it was our beloved President, Dr Abdul J Kalam’s birthday, too. So, dual celebrations were given at BHIS Andheri.

Since the student journey is all about reading, writing and understanding, we got Grades 1 to 4 to read a book of their choice. We then had them review it by jotting down what they thought the book was about and how did that perception change once they actually read the book. Everything they understood, and the lesson they took as a takeaway, they penned all of it.

Reading opens the mind like no other. Books genuinely are real-world magic, and they transport you to another realm. Our students experienced this yet again with this fun activity.

The children were spoken to about our 11th President, Dr APJ Kalam and regarding his love for physics and aerospace engineering. He was known as the Missile Man of India, and he played a significant role in the Pokhran II Nuclear Tests in 1998. A simple man, he loved his books above all. In fact, his birthday is celebrated as ‘World Students’ Day’ because of his love for children, and his vision as an educationist. He believed in making education feasible for one and all. And to this “People’s President’, we paid a heartfelt tribute.
