“Learning never exhausts the mind.” “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” “Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.” “The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.” This wonderful process was experienced by our preschoolers when they got an opportunity to learn some interesting facts about beaches from an oceanographer and environmental scientist Ana Da Silva. The world of the ocean steadily unraveled in front of them: what are beaches? how they are formed? What are waves? How are they formed? Children listened with wonder as she unpacked The ecosystem for them: animals, plants on the beach, the list went on and on. students also learned the importance of beaches and how the water on beaches appears in different colors to us. Though confined to their bedrooms, the ocean and its wonders were made temporarily real and vivid to them through Ana’s approach to experiential learning.
